We set up on the roadside along a well-traveled commuter route. Last year on Ash Wednesday, Trinity Church (a campus of Brentwood UMC) decided to reach out to a wide segment of our community, located near Nashville, by offering a “drive thru” imposition of Ashes. It provided a great opportunity to minister to many of our neighbors who would have never walked in the front door of our church, but now may do so. And for many people, Ash Wednesday is another time of latent spiritual memory. There are certain times of year when people - even those who rarely step foot inside a church - feel a spiritual longing for the blessing and rituals of the church.
